STREAM: Two Knights – “Benji’s Cool Times Summer Jamz”

Texas emo two-piece Two Knights have a gift for melody. As willfully abstract and emotionally fraught as their excellent debut full-length Shut Up was, those difficult stretches were always buoyed by lovely quiet passages and ace hooks. “Benji’s Cool Times Summer Jamz” (named for an especially embarrassing mixtape on Parks & Recreation) is likely the duo’s finest song – an impressive feat considering the sheer quality of Shut Up. A bright and bouncy two minutes of poignant melody and Parker Lawson’s curling, crystalline guitar, matched by Miles DeBruin’s jazz-flexible rhythms, “Benji’s Cool Times”, like so many of Two Knights best songs, moves from an excitable opening to a shimmering, big-hearted finale.

The song is featured on a split flexi-disc alongside The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die, Rozwell Kid and Kittyhawk (wow), courtesy of Skeletal Lightning Records on November 18th. Limited edition copies of the split, featuring 4-color screen-printed covers and an exclusive color variant, will be available at The Fest 13 in Gainesville. Stream the song below and preorder the split via Skeletal Lightning.
